What you are going to pay attention to are your thoughts, emotions, body posture, perspective, attention, and personal power. If you can track those things you can change them.
Often you won’t notice these things until after the fact when you are writing about them. That is fine. You will learn lot by taking this reflective or reviewing perspective. It trains your brain that these qualities are important. Then, with repetition you will notice these elements in the moment. Then you will be able to change them in the moment.
This is going to start by learning how to make small changes. You will gain greater control over your attention with each thing you practice. Don’t worry that the mountain is big. Just keep taking steps.
Some of the exercises will have resistance. You may not have resistance to some or any of them. But if you do, we don’t want you to get knocked off your path. And if you do, then we want you to learn from it, get more aware, stronger, and see how to stay on the path next time those resistance elements show up.
The resistance are will help identify some of the common culprits that are testing to see how much you want this. In a way, they are challenging you and making you stronger with the gravity they make you work against.
Impossible to tell. Often the belief that people feel is the problem is just what their intellect is focused on. Usually the real important belief with all the emotion is a layer or two underneath that.
I’ve seen some that took 2 years. But this was a case of strong sexual abuse, a schizophrenic mother and alcoholic father. She found acceptance of herself, forgave her mom, and is no longer afraid of being around strangers.
In my own journey I didn’t find some for 2 years. But I didn’t have an organized system like the Self Mastery course when I started.
I’ve also seen big beliefs change in an hour.
When those big beliefs have changed in an hour, it has always been because someone put in a lot of preparation work and dismantled other beliefs to weaken them first.
A lot of it depends on how many years you have been packing your personal power into the same concept. It also depends on how willing and open you are to change your perspective.

Self Mastery Failure and Success
The exercises in the Self Mastery Course aren’t supposed to be easy. They might be simple, but that doesn’t mean easy. They do get easier with practice. It’s like learning to dance, or play an instrument, or a new language. In the beginning, you can’t put two steps, two notes, or two words together. Later, you can move through a song or conversation without having …

A Process For Change
Like the seasons, every year I go through a process of change. I take time to reflect on what I do, how I have spent my time, what I enjoy, what is fulfilling, and what doesn’t work. It isn’t the only time during the year that I do this, but at the end of each calendar cycle I take extra notice. I put aside some …

Resistance to Change
There is supposed to be Resistance to the process. I didn’t set out to teach happiness directly, and if you follow what I teach you will probably notice that I don’t. I don’t focus on the positive very much. I spend more time focusing attention on false beliefs and egocentric thinking that interferes with being happy. More than half the battle is identifying false fear …

Free of Judgmental Thoughts
Living Without Judgmental Thoughts Several years ago, I spent the day with a friend from high school and her class of second graders. For physical education we went to the grass field and played a modified game of baseball. For a ball we used a tennis ball that was more fun and less dangerous to play with. The batters used a racquetball racket so that …

Persistence and Resistance
There might be simple rules or edicts to follow to be happy, but sometimes following them ain’t that easy. When we struggle to follow simple rules of happiness it is because fear and false beliefs pull us off track and into an emotional ditch of misery. It’s easy to say the words, “keep on the path,” it’s another thing to do it. To overcome how …

Noticing Resistance and Measuring Progress
Resistance and Progress One of the clues that inroads are being made on your belief system and emotions is when the Judge and Victim really complain about this work. They will tell you things like it isn’t working and it is a waste of time one day. The next day they will say that you aren’t doing it enough and because of that you are …

Overcoming Resistance “I can’t see this working he said.” He said it with a tone and inflection both of inquiry, and hopelessness. That’s what resistance will sound like sometimes. “Neither could I when I started,” I replied. “You can’t see how it is going to happen. If you could, you would know what the change and experience was. You can’t see what the …

Suggestions for Success To help you get more out of the Self Mastery program here’s a suggestion: 1. Don’t go for Perfection This may sound strange but the assignments I give aren’t always things you can accomplish, at least not right away. Some people think that session 4 is the hardest. They just agree with people or disagree as an automatic reaction before realizing it. …

A Better New Year Resolution
News Years Resolution Most New Year’s Resolutions fail. After a few months a person is back at their old habits and routines. |#20: The value of a spiritual teacher or mentor|
If the emotional quality of your life and relationships were solely dependent on how smart you were then you wouldn’t need a teacher. But that isn’t the case. A book can’t teach or model for you self acceptance, respect, love or gratitude.

Personal Growth Is Not Linear
Progress is not linear, particularly when you are changing core beliefs. Sometimes they are like walls we are hitting with a hammer. We are working and sweating and it seems like nothing is changing. Then, with the slightest tap, a whole section tumbles and possibility and space opens up in your life where there previously was none. Personal growth and cultivating happiness is not linear. …
