I have seen more accidents in this past week than I have seen in the past month due to the high water and people in a rush. I slowed down in order to not hydroplane. I got to the same point at a light they did. They had to stop and, I caught up with them. Like the Paul Simon song goes: "Slow down, you go too fast". . . I find myself shouting at speeders: "SLOW DOWN!"

I use The Work by Byron Katie to help me change my perspective when I react negatively to a situation. Combine that with Emotional Freedom Technique and the Abraham-Hicks material (masters of focusing attention) and you have a wonderful formula for transforming any life.

I too can get frustrated by slow drivers in front of me. You are right to say it is helpful to simply enjoy the drive and imagine or perceive that the other driver might have a useful reason to drive slowly. AND I have decided that when I see someone close behind me, to find the nearest safe place to pull over to let them pass. This is also using my imagination (perception) about how the other guy might feel. Maybe someone has a very pressing appointment or a close relative is in the hospital or any other too-numerous-to-count reasons why I should allow them to pass me. Instead of judging or controlling others it is a beautiful thing to act with consideration and care-full imagination. I really like your idea of "controlling attention".

One way to ease the difficulty of this task and begin to change your perspective: Consider learning the Emotional Freedom Technique, a safe and effective psychological acupuncture treatment used daily in my practice.
